Nigerian Textile Designer Foly Kolade Is PS 29 Artist In Residence; CAE PAAP Workshop Is Tuesday!

PS 29's second 2007-2008 artist-in-residence is Foly Kolade, a Nigerian singer, designer and percussionist, who will teach Nigerian textile arts through Friday in art teacher Kristen Adamczyk's classes. This residency series is made possible by a PS 29 arts partnership with City Lore, a nonprofit organization that produces programs that convey New York City's rich cultural heritage.

On Tuesday evening, at a Center for Arts Education Parents As Arts Partners workshop, parents will have a unique hands-on opportunity to share in their children's creative explorations with Mr. Kolade. (The workshop, made possible by a Center for Arts Education PAAP grant, is at capacity, and the wait list is long. Please watch for news soon of the third PAAP workshop, if you have not yet participated in the series!)

The video here is of Mr. Kolade's high-voltage Asiko Afrobeat Ensemble, which blends rock, funk, jazz and West African rhythms. Mr. Kolade's residency also coincides with the start this week of the 3rd grade's in-school BAM African Dance Beat and Music Beat residencies.
