Seeking a Co-Leader for New Brownies Troop of PS 29 Girls

PS 29 parent Kathleen Cavalaro is launching a new Brownie Girl Scouts troop comprised entirely of PS 29 girls (ages 6-8). Due to a wait list of several keenly interested girls, Kathleen is hoping to find a troop co-leader. The troop will meet from 3:30-5:00 PM on Thursdays beginning on September 18th at St. Paul's Episcopal Church (Carroll St @ Clinton St.). Parent volunteers will escort the girls from the schoolyard to St. Paul's, which is graciously donating space. If you can serve as a co-leader, please email Kathleen!

A SHORT HISTORY (Scurta Istorie) + a special, really fun selection of vintage animated cartoons from the '30s and '40s. (Total Running Time: Approximately 88 minutes)
A Short History (Scurta istorie) (1956) is a wordless animated short film in which human evolution and industrial development culminate in the planting of large daisy-like flowers on distant planets. Directed by Ion Popescu-Gopo, the first-ever Romanian filmmaker to win the Palm D’Or in 1957 at the Cannes Film Festival.  With special thanks to the Romanian Cultural Institute New York.

The screen's first full-length musical comedy cartoon! The insect world comes to life in this classic animated feature from Dave and Max Fleischer, creators of Betty Boop and Popeye. Will Hoppity foil Bagley in time to save his garden paradise from ruin?

Big Movies for Little Kids Features Knuffle Bunny and Prince Achmed

On Monday, December 17th at 4 PM, The Big Movies for Little Kids Series at Cobble Hill Cinemas features The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) with special preview screening of Knuffle Bunny (2006). (Total Running Time: 76 minutes.)

In Knuffle Bunny, Trixie, Daddy and Knuffle Bunny take a trip to the neighborhood laundromat, but their exciting adventure takes an unexpected turn when Trixie realizes something is missing. Narrated by author Mo Willems and his real-life daughter, Trixie.

The Adventures of Prince Achmed was the first feature-length animated film ever made and is based on stories from The Arabian Nights. A wicked sorcerer tricks Prince Achmed into riding a magical flying horse. The heroic prince is able to subdue the magical horse, which he uses to fly off to many adventures. While travelling, he falls in love with the beautiful Princess Peri Banu, and must defeat an army of demons to win her heart. The entire film is animated using the silhouette technique, which employs movable cardboard and metal cutouts posed in front of illuminated sheets of glass. (Admission: $6.50 per person.)

Calling all volunteers for this Friday evening's eagerly anticipated performance of Vital Theatre Company's Pinkalicious the Musical!

Enormous thanks also go to our drama teacher, Cynthia Blackwell, for introducing Pinkalicious, the book, to her classes this week! Both Pinkalicious and the brand-new Purplicious books will be available for purchase at the event (a percentage goes to the PTA)!

Lower Grades Ice Skating Party Next Monday!

The PTA invites families and teachers of PS 29 grades Pre-K—2 to a FREE ice skating party on Monday, December 3rd from 6:00-8:30 PM at Wollman Rink, Prospect Park! (A party for 3rd-5th graders is planned for Tuesday, January 22nd.) If you have not yet submitted your reservation form, please do so ASAP! The PTA needs a head count!

If you don't have access to other transportation, the PTA will provide a bus from PS 29 to Wollman Rink. The bus will depart at 5:30 and return at 8:30 PM. Space is limited, so if you have room in your car, please take friends! Hot cocoa will be served! Donations of healthy snacks and homemade goodies in disposable containers are welcome!! No admission fee, but a $4/person or $12/family donation is suggested. Skate rentals are included! First-come, first-served; there's a limit of 400 guests! Directions to Wollman Rink! Rainy Monday at Cobble Hill Cinemas

It's rainy and gray, but things have a way of turning sunny for Krtek, a sweet little Czech mole, and hero of a group of animated shorts presented this afternoon at 4 PM by the Big Movies for Little Kids series at Cobble Hill Cinemas. The screening is sponsored by the Czech Center of New York, an organization focused on bringing Czech artists' work to the United States. See more!

Look for the pink table in front of school during drop off and in the school yard during pick up and buy your tickets to Vital Theatre's Pinkalicious the Musical, which comes to PS 29 for a special, one-time only performance on Friday, December 7th at 6:30 PM.
